No fue una remontada común. Philadelphia estabaocked29 points abajo and had to recover from that disadvantage to beat Cleveland 114-106. The key play arrived in the second half, when the Sixers changed the rhythm and turned the game around. That was the move that defined the night.

The comeback: from -29 to victory

At the beginning of the season, the 76ers suffered one of the most striking rallies in the league. They overcame a 29-point deficit and took the game against the Cavaliers. The victory had several protagonists, but the team stood out for its character when things got complicated.

LeBron James was one of the high points of the winning team. He finished with 17 points, ten rebounds and three assists in his return to the franchise where he started his career. And he won the championship there in 2016. The numbers are solid. They are not flashy for someone of his stature. But they come with the weight of a player who knows exactly what that franchise meant to his career.

  • The 76ers overcame a 29-point deficit.
  • James finished with 17 points, ten rebounds and three assists.
  • The final score was 114-106 in Philadelphia's favor.
  • James played against the team with which he won the title in 2016.

The political battle and an answer with irony

Before the game, the focus was not only on basketball. Days earlier, during the match against the New York Knicks at the Madison Square Garden, James made movements that simulated a shot at the hoop and a golf swing while the national anthem was playing. Donald Trump shared the video and accused him of not respecting the country. He even demanded public apologies to the military fallen defending the flag.

“Debió de ser un día con pocas noticias en la oficina.”LeBron James

Trump brought up the episode again on Thursday in Iowa. After the victory over the Cavaliers, James was asked about those statements and gave a single sentence. No more. The answer was sharp, ironic and brief. Sometimes that's enough. The message says it all without getting into a long back-and-forth.

During the anthem before the Cleveland game, James stood still, with his hands behind his back and his head bowed. Nick Nurse, the Philadelphia coach, was also asked about the controversy. He chose not to enter the debate and explained that his focus is on keeping the squad concentrated on training and calendar commitments. Pragmatic. The players understand that the season does not stop for any political noise.

The clash between James and Trump has background. In 2017, after the invitation to the Golden State Warriors to visit the White House was withdrawn, the player publicly criticized the then president. He wrote that going to the White House was an honor until Trump appeared. Seven years later, the script repeats itself with different ingredients. The player has grown. The podium has become a stage. And the audience, in this case, is watching a champion respond with a sentence that fits his style.

In my view, a sports figure who transcends the court and generates political debate should do two things. First, keep the dignity of the message without making it an endless show. Second, stay close to the people who follow him every day. The stands do not care about the internal calculations of power. They care about whether the player respects the anthem, the badge and the fans. James handled the second part with his attitude in Cleveland. The first part, with his answer.
